Our Story

We’re Ryan and Amy, both 4th-generation farmers and the 3rd generation to work Ryan’s family farm in west-central Minnesota. We inherited a deep love for good beef and registered cattle, and we’ve continued the operation much as Ryan’s grandpa did.

In 2016, we introduced the Wagyu breed into our herd — and absolutely fell in love! This incredible meat is something we’re passionate about sharing with the world.

Our Name

Red Roots was born in the early days of our marriage, when we needed a prefix for what would become our shared herd and farm. Around that same time, Ryan’s cow Nelly—the one that made him fall in love with cattle and farming—passed away of old age. We buried her beneath the oak tree we planted in our farmyard that very year. She’s quite literally at the roots of our farm.

Our story goes back even further, though. Ryan’s grandpa founded our farm, and his very first registered animal was a red cow. Red Roots felt like the perfect name—one that honors where we began, the animals who shaped us, and the legacy that still carries us forward.
